English Lessons

Elevate your English skills - learn by doing

Your English classes - where and when

You will have your English lessons at Weymouth College, which is a few minutes’ walk from the beach and the town centre. All classes are in the same building within the campus and it is easy to find your way around. The classrooms are spacious and light and have interactive whiteboards. There is free access to the college Wi-fi in the whole area. In the breaks you can use the relaxation area or the space outside the building.

You will attend 15 full hours of English lessons a week which includes the written and oral test, and induction on the first day. Lessons are usually from 09.00 to 12.30 with a total break time of 30 minutes but they may occasionally take place in the afternoon from 13.30 to 17.00 with a total break time of 30 minutes.

Learn in the best class for you

After the spoken and written tests on the first day. you will join a class at your language level. There are levels from elementary to advanced while no total beginner class is offered. There will be maximum 15 students in your class, but normally fewer.

The lessons are organised around topics with the main aim to improve your communication skills and develop your fluency accuracy and confidence in using the language in everyday situations. Your teachers will help you develop your vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation that you will be able to use. You will learn and practise English in a meaningful, memorable and enjoyable way. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate.

Your teachers and the teaching methods

Your teachers have all been trained to teach English as a foreign language and hold internationally recognised qualifications. They enjoy working with young people and ensure that their classes are lively and interactive. They use a very flexible approach that combines various methodologies. In particular, this includes communicative and skills-based approaches, whereby you often work in pairs or in small groups so you have a chance to speak as much as possible. Games, songs, short videos, role-plays, discussions, mini debates and project work are used extensively to encourage you to use the language you have learnt. Project work helps you to improve your language skills and to learn more about British life and customs.
