WEYMOUTH

Why Weymouth?

We loved Weymouth the first time we saw it. It is a beautiful seaside town on the South-West coast with something for everyone.

The Town

Weymouth is a popular destination for British families, and many come here on their summer holidays to enjoy the long, sandy beach, the picturesque harbour with its fishing boats, the street cafés and variety of small and large shops. There is a cinema, a swimming pool, tennis courts, go-karting, mini-golf, adventure golf, a sea-life centre, a skate park and lots more.

The Isle of Portland

The Isle of Portland, where some of our students stay, has a history of smuggling and pirates and its own distinct character. The people there do not use the word “rabbit” as the animals are linked with bad luck on the island – you’ll find out why if you go on our Portland tour. You will also see Chesil Beach, the shingle beach made up of 100 million tons of pebbles which runs for 29 kilometres along the coast from here.

The Jurassic Coast

Weymouth and Portland are on the “Jurassic Coastline", a 95 mile stretch of coastline awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO. This coastline is famous for fossils and one of our afternoon trips is to Charmouth, one of the best fossil-hunting beaches in England.

Around Weymouth

Another of our afternoon trips is to Durdle Door and Lulworth, where we go on a stunning clifftop walk to a beautiful beach and cove.

Dorchester is the county town and is not far from Weymouth. The Romans built a town here but there were people living here long before they came: Maiden Castle is a hill fort which was built around 2,500 years ago and can still be visited today.

Day Trips From Weymouth

Weymouth is well placed for day trips to other towns and cities of interest and each Saturday there are various destinations for you to choose from. A sightseeing trip to London is one of these. Others can include Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge and Salisbury, Winchester and Bristol.
