Weymouth is on the south west coast of England about 40 kilometres west of Bournemouth. It has a population of about 80,000.

The town became established as England's first health and pleasure resort through the patronage of King George III in the early 18th century. He started the tradition of sea bathing.
The town has a fine Georgian seafront forming a backdrop to a long arc of golden sand 4 kms long around Weymouth Bay.
The beaches are safe and clean.

There is a lively fishing harbour, a marina and a very good shopping centre as well as a restored old harbour which contains many attractions.

Next to the town is the Isle of Portland. It is not really an island at all as it is attached to the mainland by a long narrow strip of land. It has a rugged landscape and a dramatic coastline including the famous Chesil Beach. At the sea end of the Isle is the lighthouse and visitor centre.

Weymouth and Portland will be the site of the sailing events at the Olympic Games in 2012. The events will take place in the huge harbour between Weymouth and Portland. The harbour is sheltered by very long walls built many years ago to defend naval ships.

The transfer journey time from major airports is around three hours.
